In between Christmas and New Year, I went to Helsinki, Finland’s delightful capital. Surrounded by water and islands, this city, is a little like Paris and a bit like Copenhagen, and has the friendliest people I have come across in a long time.
The restaurants are magnificent, and I was very lucky to have a deep blue winter sky, where the sun shone all day, albeit very low in the sky. It was -9 but no snow. It’s a three hour flight, across the Baltic, parts of which were frozen, and it’s pretty expensive, but well worth a visit.
I shall definitely return to see it in the summer, as the city has beautiful tree lined streets and parks.
